My 3rd assignment takes my skill and understanding of composition even further. I was given the task of creating cut out using symmetry and focal point. I had to create 2 cut out one showing focal point and one showing symmetry and present it on mounting boards. My first general theme was dragon but it gradually changed to fire as it suit my artwork best. Cutting out the images was my favourite part as i had to some serious detail on it. In the end i had fun pasting and making my cut out.
For my first design i did an image of a dragon. i googled various of pictures of dragon and came up with a few designs. i learnt that there are different characteristics of dragons, some have horns and some have even hairs and some have different power, in the end i decided to go with the old traditional Chinese dragon, a fierce beast with menacing sets of antler breathing fire, which was the theme behind it. i feel that it suit a creature like a dragon best!
For my second design, i wanted to elevate the intensity of fire even more by burning my image with rage! Since fire is sometimes associated with anger i feel like it would suit the cut out better with a man holding out his fist with outburst anger and is on fire and to take it a step further i decided, instead of doing the cut out like the dragon where i used a matching colour for the background and cut out the inside i decided to do it differently to test my cutting skills. its was in my best interest to go the extra mile of cutting out the figure piece by piece and stick it on individually.
