Paintin' to music

So for our last ever class we had paintin'' to music... i dint know what i had to do for it but all i know that it was paintin'... there was no limit to what we were allowed to use...
so first we had to do a paintin' to music of our genre.. we pick em and put it on as a play list....and blasted it out in our class blaring...

so i just stood there with every one painting...thinkin' what to do.. but i realise after a while there was no thinkin needed.. just doing... and when imagine dragon radioactive played i started paintin'... i mean i know mine looked solid cause it very straight forward but i saw it and interpret what the music was speaking to me.... i was thinkin of dragon and dungeon so i picked up the paintbrush and painted what was on my mind...a guy stood up and there was a dragon in front of em.. i dent even know why i drew it but i felt like drawing it... i guess that was the point to let it out through what you hear... and after imagine dragon played the song changed to a love song came on... i don't remember what the song was called but i know how it felt and you can see through painting... the man stood on a floor bed of a river and i wanted to portray what i would do to save that love one... i would split the sea in half to be with her... id kill any dragons in my way... but this was just the beginning of the painting...all i felt that love was able to let me do the impossible and i speak that through my painting... i didn't put any spray paint on it cause i didn't feel like it need it... the mountains and blue skies came after wards when the song from west life you raise me up came on... it felt peace full to hear and i feel like i need to put peace in there cause i felt peaceful at the time... as for the light at the top of the tower... the song lighter by Bruno Mars showed me that.. i dint even know i wanted that there but i felt complete after putting it... it was a great way to relief stress.... and i thank miss Lisa for this cause i was stressed enough for the exam for the next day...

the next paintin' we did was with classical music at the back ground... i did the same thing as i dad for the first painting.. sat down and listen... it was weird cause the tone kept changin'... it gave all kinds of mood cheer, joy, sorrow, fear you name it every time s track end it was a whole different mood... then i finally understood what miss Lisa was trying to make us understand... it was paint to music.. not paint what you want with music in the background... so you could understand why this one was so abstract compare the the first one... each time the music change the colour change and the strokes of the brush changed... but only that i felt that spraying was necessary not cause it suited the song but it was an alternitave to it... its uncommon to spray paint to classical misic in the background but i wanted to add a lil' bit of me in it... so when you look at it let it look at you.. cause i really brought this one to life with out even realising it... its interesting that it came out like that...there are over 20 layers of pain.... i mean paint on it... the little drips are what i felt when music with strong pianos are in the background and swooshes from the spray are stroke of violin red for excitement swoosh and black for complete uncertainty of what those noise made me feel... its all about how i felt for this assignment and i felt so free and liberated after it... its like i was holding back on all the grudges that the class have give me... i mean i know were friends but sometimes we drove each other insane but at the same time i love that about them... they made me who i am today.. in one year i have never experience something so rich and exciting... i really love em for this and as the last class i felt like crying when realising that... finishing my painting i let go of any grudges i had for anyone i didn't think painting could do something like this to me... and now they're up on my bedroom wall in Rawang...

So here it is my final post as an FID student... next time i blog it will be as a candidate of  the degree in graphic design student... i would like to thank all my lecturers... i would like to say that it was a privilege and an honour learning from you guys... i hope you all see this... i learnt so much in one year and experience so much of the design world... but i still have a long way to go... i hope i can honour your teachings by using it in my life ahead.. thank you for teaching me how to see so differently from the way i was before... and i hope i can carry all of your teachings into degree and on... and as for the class... i love you guys each person had they're own set of eccentricity and weirdness in their own way but its good being weird, don't let nobody put you down because of it, chin up and look em in the eyes and say...
Normal is Boring.

Modern Day Heroes

so while our squares were in the exhibition we had a meeting in the gallery.. it was different from having class inside class.. there was no need to be in a class room hahah... we had a meeting about our batik trip and it was unexpected... i mean i had no idea that it was gonna be this soon but with the class finishing it was exciting to have one more trip as a class...

first we had to form a group and this became a group assignment... it was exciting cause we didn't have a group assignment since the cupcake in the last sem and that drove use apart  and i hate it so much... and i was afraid for this one... but we know know it was our own fault as a group... did we learn from it?? well if we didn't group again it only means we didn't... so this time same group but different people from the last semester... we all grew so much in the last few months... so in my group i had Sarah-Jane, Nick and Maegan we want to show that we learned to plan much better than the last time we were as a group...

so first we had to come up with a theme for our what we want to do for our batik..
here is what we didn't want...
floral patterns
curves
animals
abstract
swirls
flower
and mostly flowers
i think i said that twice that how much we didn't want it... why didn't we want this?? because of this...

its so common its boring... its normal.. for batik to look like this... but after that we start generating ideas... it was at the first time we worked so well as a group, you may not know it but outside of class we were constantly arguing about lighting and camera angles from our other assignments...

a few ideas came up and we went for this one...

Modern Day Heroes
take ordinary day jobs and make em extraordinary... any occupation with man or woman in it and we make em special.. we had so much.... postman, garbage man, fisherman, policeman, fireman... you know it the options are endless... we didn't think it would be this fun... So they all chose they're ones... but i was stuck between fisherman and postman...

so it came down to post man now just the colour scheme... i though i had to go and research postman on the internet but as luck would have it i ran into one that morning on the way to class it was hilarious i never though that postmen wore orange over here hahahah it made it even funnier cause my one looked like the power rangers...

so we arrive at the batik factory and i was in awe the minute i walked in there... they demonstrate how to draw on a batik and you know what im never takin' em for granted again to do something so well with out mistake is unreal! they drew with a waxed like pen that was used in old traditions and when they draw on the batik it was a one in a life time thing so mistake would only mean waste of money and materials...

the place was filled with artistic magic and it was amazing, you know? i was so amazed by what i saw i mean look at these...

then we had to do our own batik on an A3 size... well batik haha while drawing i forgot that i had to close the gap with the wax and before i knew it i had put paint on it... the colour were very fun to mix... even though mine was done a bit badly, i still had fun watchin' all the colour seep into the batik... they mixed so well... so mine turned out like this after drawin'...

OK not what i expected but i achieved my goals... it wasn't to make the perfect batik for the first time but to learn how different mediums work... i know that from my experience there it wasn't for me but with enough practice it could be... i wasn't sad about it just a slight bit of disappointment that it turned out a bit weird... but its interesting the way it turned out... cause normals boring... and i learned a lot from this... and most of all i enjoyed it

here are some  more pictures at the factory

M for Monogram

When Lisa told me bout this i was like 'fur real?' (for real) cause i head we were gonna' spray it on.... i mean there was the option of pasting it with paint but you know me right? 'if i can spray it imma spray it'

i already knew what a monogram was but i still feel like it worth researching it.. just so i can get a better idea of it...

basically its a form of typography that uses only our initials..well you can go outside the box and add a few minor things like numbers and shapes but for it to be a monogram the initials have to stand out more... i went online a got a few ideas and inspiration for it..

so here a a few basic monogram... it can be cursive or block letter but they all have it suited for the products they sell...

and i had a long about what mine was gonna' be and i wasn't sure.. it took me so long to figure this out...so i drew up a few ideas...

since mine was ff it wasn't that difficult to come up with ideas...

but i still had a long way to go aside all this... i dint think that it was just about the monogram... miss Lisa explained its more than just that... i understood from what she said that color scheme played a great deal to... i borrowed some book for my further research...

after all the researh about colour i said to my self... 'why worry about the colour? why not make a monogram that can induce any sprayed on to it...

after thinking of this i thought long and hard on what my monogram was gonna be...

here are some more trials with a few numbers added...

why 313??
it wasn't just numbers i saw in a movie or some rap crew i heard about.. it was way more... it was an inspiration.. 313 was a crew Eminem worked with, it all began for him there.. the supported him when all everyone else did was doubt... 313 was the number i wanted to carry... cause it died out in the early 2000's and nowadays is almost forgotten... but it ain't forgotten by me! it what got me through the days of high school from when i was bullied... to me their heroes.. and my monogram is a tribute to them...

but this was just the start to my monograms... i finally now know what my label was for... see i was stuck not knowing how to do this... i mean to create something for nothing.. then i gave myself a goal... i told myself i would name the company i built 313 Graffiti... and its no just for this assignment that im doing this but also myself... someday you all will see 313 Graffiti on your clothing, cars, phone casings and many more and you all will know where it started... and oh... did i mention that its a spraycan??

and after all this i finally got around to it... i had to present 6 items with my monogram on it.... as for the colour scheme... ive thoght enough about it.. if its a spray can... anycolour can suit it...

Whats your square??

So we decided to take a break for from our floating exhibition.... it was repetitive and it has been to long since we focused on other thing and i forgot how to use creativity haha

Miss Lisa came into class one morning and then asked use what our square?... no one knew what she meant at first but after the lectured that mornin' it i finally get it..did you know it was possible to cut out a square and turn it into something else completely... but at the same time keep it a square...

like so

I mean its hard to understand at first but. but after researching it i understand... we had to go outside the box... literally!

but first a theme...

you all know my art.. graffiti all the way! like typography and stuff but I wouldnt be thinkin outside the box now am I??
 then i stumble across this
this is typography done in a square and ive seen graffiti artist use this before so i thought it would be cool to use this... but i dont feel it...not for this assignment.

so one day while doing research on it i came a graffiti style which was witty... it was on insects... you know.. these things..

It was funny... people would get scared seeing this on the streets... so simple but it grab such attention... i want my square to be able to do this to...

So its decided that the theme of my square was insects.... and we had to do 2 composition for it... symmetrical and asymmetrical... so here's what i did...

but wait presentation in class it lame cause it been done so many time hahah so we took it out side that box we call classroom and guess what? we blocked the walk way one the second floor on lever 2 hahah this was way more more exciting... and i didn't think we were able to exhibit it like this.. take a look

Welcome to 2d Design

i had a rough start of semester two... but i dont wanna go into detail of that... i also went and postpone all my blog entries... i feel like im repeating semester one all over again.. i hate the face that i always hold back assignment and have fun all the time cause it all pile up within the last 3 weeks of the semester and it sucks... so i came back into semester two hoping that i want be doing it all over again but i did :(

my biggest fear is that i want be able to satisfy everyone but npt just everyone but also my self... i as never happy with how i was and during the five weeks of holidays that we have i was on a monotonous journey of finding myself... it was the hardest to do since i was so torn apart... i did so much to keep my mind of of her and all the thing i did wrong in semester 1... the results came out on my birthday and i wasn't satisfy, so much was gong on...

so i went back to rawang to recuperate and and refill all depleted energy spent on sem 1 and it was hard, but i told myself that im gonna come back stronger than i was in sem 1....

i got a job.. it wasn't the typical job like working at a mall or a shop but i did got a job that would benifit me to my course and design... it was to graffiti a skate shop and i was paid a good deal of money for it... the client wanted to open a new archery field nest to the skate shop and decided that to put graffiti on the railings of the shop so that when the shop is close people can see the art... there was no particular theme and it was fun to do as it was my favorite form of art.. so here it is

at first i use chalk for the outline and then painted it with oil paint for the inside... i sprayed the outline of the lettering and the character to give it the graffiti look.

i guess during this time i was under the state of metamorphosis. honestly i didn't know what i was doing but i did it well... the spraying technique i applied became more solid and the line became cleaner as time went on... i mean i did a lot of research for it and the reason it turned out so well wa that i had such passion for it... im looking for that passion to kick start the new semester... i need to change..

i was the ugly duckling and now its finally time to change...

so our first assignments for 2d design was to use object surrounding us and create and image of how we feel after the break. I like this assignment cause it lets me think on the spot and allowed me to be creative on the spot. it was a very good start to sem 2 as our first class activities were to go out and find thing around you, and with it, create any form of art with it. Heres what i came up with...

Assignment 5: Colour wheel

The Colour Wheel
Our next assignment was my favorite to do. After learning about the colour wheel we were given the assignment of showing our understanding of it. At first we wanted to do something associated with lighting but given the fact that nature is unpredictable we decided not to, instead we are going to focus on food for our colour wheel assignments. We decided that cupcakes are the best because we can change the colour of the icing and eat it afterwards, in a way rewarding ourselves

Our main focus on this assignment was the icing. it is very important that we get the colours right and of course mix it carefully. To get the right balance was our main objective
So we went and bought the 3 primary colours and the cupcake ingredients at tesco. It was the best way to save money I suppose. I mean it wasn't too bad, the pricing, I just couldn't wait for the eating process.

So here the cupcakes all fully baked and ready to go and as you can see there are 6 very colorful bags of icing all looking very yummy indeed. we didn't have much problem in the process of making the cupcake, infact at the end it tasted very good, you could say it was baked to perfection.

We decided to do 6 colours of icing. because there are 3 primary colours so its only fair to do 3 more secondary colours mixing them very carefully. They came out very bright and very pastell looking and they also tasted very good i meant it was awesome!! so awesome that in the end there wasn't any cupcake left i mean we should have sold it, we would at least make some profit out of it. :P

Assignment 4: Colour theory.

Definition of hue
  • Hue is the shade of tone of colour. As you can see here are the different shade of green as darkness increase, the colour vision starts to work, and the characteristic pale green hue of the aurora becomes visible.

  • Value is the brightness of the colour. We can tell the value of the colour by how light or dark it is from the colour white.
  • Saturation is related to chromaticity. It show us how the colour look under certain lighting condition. This can also be called the colour intensity. for example a room painted may be a red but due to he lighting in the room it may be a different colour.

  • Secondary colour is the mixture of two primary colours for example the combination of the two primary colours blue and yellow create the secondary colour green.
  • Tertiary colour is the mixture of either a primary colour with a secondary colour or the mixture of  two secondary colours.

  • Complementary colours are the colours opposite each other on the colour wheel. For example the colour green complements red. It goes well together and is pleasant to the eye.

  • Analogous colour is the colour adjacent to each other on the colour wheel. it is best used with warm and cool colours, developing a look that has a certain temperature and giving a proper colour harmony.

  • A colour tint is the amount of white added to the colour. the opposite of this is the shade of colour which is the addition of black to the colour giving it a shadier look.
  • Neutral usually means without colour. Colours like beige, ivory, taupe, black, gray and white are considered neutral colours.
